BREAKING: Russia Launches Massive Wave of Attacks on Ukraine — Worst Escalation in Months

June 1, 2025 — Tensions between Moscow and Kyiv have hit a new boiling point as Russia intensifies its air and missile strikes across Ukraine, in what many military observers are calling the largest escalation since early 2024.

According to Ukrainian military officials, multiple regions — including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Odessa — were hit overnight by long-range missiles, kamikaze drones, and airstrikes. Civilian areas, power grids, and logistics hubs were among the targets.

“This is not just another wave. This is sustained, coordinated, and destructive,” said a Ukrainian defense spokesperson.

 High-Impact Targets Struck

Initial reports suggest that several power stations and military depots were either destroyed or severely damaged. Explosions were heard deep into the night as air defense systems struggled to intercept Russia’s new wave of long-range drones and hypersonic missiles.

Russian state media, meanwhile, framed the strikes as "precision operations" aimed at disrupting Ukraine’s supply lines and NATO-backed logistics.

 A Strategic Shift?

Analysts suggest this latest offensive may mark a strategic shift in Russia's approach, possibly in response to Ukraine’s recent drone strikes on Russian airbases and infrastructure.

“We’re now seeing a tit-for-tat escalation that risks spiraling out of control,” said NATO analyst Claire Brody.

International Response

  • The UN has called for immediate de-escalation, warning of the humanitarian cost.

  • Washington and Brussels have reiterated their support for Kyiv, while condemning Russia’s actions.

  • Global markets reacted swiftly, with energy prices spiking amid fears of further instability.
