Omiš, Croatia – June 22, 2025 –
A devastating wildfire has erupted near the coastal city of Omiš, destroying at least a dozen homes and scorching an estimated 300 hectares of land.
According to local authorities, the blaze spread rapidly due to high winds and dry vegetation, triggering an emergency evacuation. Around 80 people, mostly tourists, were forced to flee and have taken shelter in a local sports hall converted into a temporary evacuation center.
“The situation was critical. The fire came dangerously close to residential areas,” said a spokesperson for the Croatian fire services. “Thanks to quick coordination, we avoided casualties — but the damage is significant.”
Firefighting units, supported by aircraft, are still battling the flames as officials warn that strong winds could reignite hotspots.

Omiš, a popular tourist destination on the Dalmatian coast, was in peak season when the fire broke out. Authorities are now assessing damage to infrastructure and homes, and emergency services remain on high alert.
